|Thesp Bebe Neuwirth ("Cheers," "Chicago") has joined the cast of Dick Wolf's midseason NBC drama series "Law & Order: Trial by Jury."|
Peacock also announced that "Law & Order" cast member Fred Thompson will expand his role as District Attorney Arthur Branch and appear regularly on both the original show and "Trial by Jury."
Neuwirth will play Tracy Kibre, a tough-minded assistant D.A. She will star opposite recently departed "Law & Order" star Jerry Orbach, who will reprise his role as detective Lenny Briscoe in the latest addition to Wolf's hit franchise.
"Trial by Jury," which bows in 2005, is a production of Wolf Films and NBC Universal Television Studios. Wolfe, Walon Green and Peter Jankowski are exec producers.
Neuwirth won two Emmy Awards for her role as Dr. Lilith Sternin-Crane on "Cheers." She reprised the role as a guest star on "Frasier."
On Broadway, Neuwirth received Tony Awards for her supporting role in "Sweet Charity" and for best actress in "Chicago." Off Broadway, she recently completed a run of "Here Lies Jenny" at the Zipper Theater.
She has appeared in a number of feature films, including "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days" and "The Big Bounce."
