NBC a commandé une 16ème saison de New York unité spéciale. La série reviendra donc en septembre avec, sauf changement de dernière minute, l'intégralité du cast actuel.

In the season 16 premiere, Sergeant Benson (Hargitay) juggles work and her new role as foster mother to baby Noah Porter. Amaro (Pino), now working the traffic beat in Queens, arrests an underage prostitute with connections to Noah’s mother Ellie, who was "greenlit" by her pimp and brutally murdered. Amaro’s undercover work sets off a chain of events that puts everyone connected to the case - even baby Noah - in danger. Meanwhile, a new detective assigned to Manhattan SVU (guest star Peter Scanavino) starts off on the wrong foot. Dans le premier épisode de la saison 16, le sergent Benson jongle entre son travail et son nouveau rôle en tant que mère adoptive du bébé, Noah Porter. Amaro, qui régule maintenant la circulation dans le Queens, arrête une prostituée mineure ayant des liens avec la mère de Noah, Ellie, laquelle a été brutalement tuée lorsque son mac a mis un contrat sur sa tête. Le travail en immersion d’Amaro déclenche une chaîne d’événements qui place tous ceux liés à l’affaire, y compris bébé Noah, en danger. Pendant ce temps, un nouveau détective, assigné à l’USV de Manhattan part du mauvais pied.

Un nouveau boss pour L&O SVU Peter Gallagher. Peter Gallagher rejoint L&O SVU dans Rôle récurrent.

Il sera le Chef Adjoint William Dodds, un patron charismatique qui surveille toutes les unités "SVU" de New York City. Il exige du respect et un travail acharné des inspecteurs sous ses ordres, il a été nommé pour cela.

“I’ve wanted to write for and work with Peter Gallagher since … forever,” said “SVU” showrunner Warren Leight. “He’s an actor’s actor – deft with text and subtext; emotion and intellect. Like everyone else in our cast, he’s also a great singer. We’re all thrilled that this long into the show’s run, actors of his quality want to do an arc on ‘SVU.’”

Basketball superstar Shakir “The Shark” Wilkins (guest star Henry Simmons) announces his partnership with the Orion Bay clothing line, owned by billionaire Orion Bauer (guest star Stacy Keach) and his daughter Cordelia (guest star Teri Polo). But the SVU intervenes when Orion press rep Carla Cannon (guest star Kelley Missal) tells reporters she was raped by Wilkins. When more women come forward, Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Detective Carisi (guest star Peter Scanavino) disagree on the authenticity of each woman’s story, and Barba (Raul Esparza) takes a shaky case to court. Quand d’autres femmes se font connaître, Benson et le détective Carisi ne sont pas du même avis quand à l’authenticité du témoigne de ces femmes et Barba doit porter une affaire peu solide devant la cour. Pendant ce temps, l’affaire ramène Rollins à son ancien commissariat à Atlanta, où d’anciens collègues évoquent de vieux souvenirs.

Mais Benson suspecte que des problèmes sous-jacents pourraient avoir mené Tensley dans cette spirale destructive – l’agresseur serait-elle aussi une victime ?
